Sportlots was recently notified by Stamps.com that they have reached an agreement with Canadian Customs. As a result, Sportlots now can prepay a $9.95 flat rate for duties and taxes regardless of the value of the contents of the package instead of being charged the full duty and tax rates upon delivery of your package.
There are limitations:
1. This is only available for Box Shipping. An option will be provided for you to select to have duty and taxes prepaid. This will increase your Box shipping costs by $9.95.2. The box package must be under 4 pounds. This is limited to First Class international mail and any package over 4 pounds must be sent Priority mail.
3. The box package contents must have a value of under $400.00
The other advantage is that these packages basically bypass customs, which means faster delivery times.
For less expensive orders, the prepayment of duty and taxes may not be beneficial, it will be up to each customer to determine if this is something you want to take advantage of.
If you haven’t previously tried Box Shipping, there are also further advantages to shipping using Box Shipping because you get reduced domestic (USA to USA) shipping rates to your box from USA based sellers and only a single international shipment from Sportlots instead of multiple international shipments from each seller.
Sportlots also has plenty of experience shipping to Canada, each package has tracking, proper customs forms and insurance. This all decreases chances of lost and delayed mail.
